Sounds like a really cool project and I'd be keen to read results down the line, when they're ready.

What does 'debunking UFOs' mean to you?

I'd consider myself an 'other intelligent life hopeful' (I grew up on Star Trek Next Generation, who wouldn't find a galaxy like that fasinating!?). But I'm also very skeptical of the leap from 'something observed that we don't have an explanation for' to 'aliens'.

Many (most?) visual/instrument detections are 'debunked' in the sense that there is a reasonably plausible explanation for what they are. Be it instrument artifacting, lenses, counter-intuitive visual representations of thermal imagers, etc. But some do not, some are big question marks. But I don't find them being unexplained to be compelling evidence that they're alien space craft, if that makes sense?

With that said, hey when things are unexplained I'm pretty happy people are designing new experiments and pointing new sensors at it.

Aside from the difficulties of proving a negative, debunking UFOs with radar would look like: 1) Not detecting unexplained anomalies, and 2) Data attributing claimed anomalies to prosaic explanations (conventional drones, aircraft, etc)

I don't know what they are, but yes, UFOs have gotten prominent enough that it's worth a small open-source project to investigate (retina.fm)

What will you do if / when you do find definitive proof?

Publish! Retina.fm is open-source, so I'd want all results vetted by the community.

It is an interesting piece of sociology how Miller managed to one-shot persuade large swaths of the rat-adjacent community about LL with a debate performance. Those people tend to be pretty good at dissecting tendentious reasoning and that fell over here.

You should know that since the debate, Miller has engaged in some pretty bad behavior disparaging motives of scientists who disagree with him on LL likelihood, including Jesse Bloom. He falsely accused Bloom of misleading reporters for personal advancement, which is an nasty piece of business given the excellent work Bloom has done on the study of early COVID.

Is this an open source project? Any way to help?

It is! Our repo is here: github.com/offworldlabs

I will DM you. Thanks!
