Quick Answers to Common UFO Questions
Why hasn’t anyone leaked the secret?
Many have over the years; here’s a list of people who have come out from the US military. However, they’re considered cranks because their claims are too weird. This, of course, leads to the tautology where whistleblowers who make claims about UFOs are cranks, because anyone who makes claims about UFOs is a crank.
Now that we have smartphones, why aren’t there videos everywhere?
They are everywhere! They’re just not that impressive because 1-3x optical zoom camera phones will not photograph airborne objects well. As an experiment, try to take a picture of a plane or helicopter with your smartphone and see how it turns out.
Why are they always seen by the US Navy?
They’re not always seen by the US Navy; they’re always disclosed by it. You can’t submit a Freedom of Information Act request to the Chinese or Russian Navies.
The speed of light is too slow
There are two ways to get around this:
1) Von Neumann probes - i.e. self-replicating probes. Cosmological time scales are more than enough to colonize the galaxy or even the universe. Humans did the same thing, colonizing the Earth while moving at only ~10 miles/year.
2) Wormholes or warp bubbles, which aren’t forbidden by physics.
Intelligent life in the universe is too rare
Life seems to lead to intelligent life, as evidenced by the fact that two very distant animal families, primates and octopuses, are intelligent. Their most recent common ancestor was a worm less than a few millimeters long.
Where are the radio waves?
With our current radio telescopes, we couldn’t detect another Earth at the nearest star. SETI is looking for a directional beam, not incidental radio traffic.
Why are UFOs an American Phenomenon?
You may have seen the map below circulating around:
However, this is just the UFO sightings for one American organization, NUFORC. In actuality, there are government initiatives on UFOs in Japan, France, Brazil, and China. One of the better-known videos of a UFO came from a Russian MiG.
Why Are They Showing Up Right Now?
It seems strange that UFOs would show up at this point in history. There are two possibilities:
1) Humans have only recently started broadcasting radio waves and detonating nuclear weapons; either one could have been a beacon that attracted attention. These signals would have had 80-100 years to reach other planets by now.
2) They’ve been visiting for a long time, but our sensors have only just caught up to detecting them regularly. We’ve only been industrial for a few hundred years, and digital for perhaps half a century.
Why would they come here?
Though there is probably other life in the universe, it doesn’t seem especially common. Humanity freaked out when we thought we found fossilized evidence of just microbes. Finding a whole new biosphere would be endlessly fascinating.
How Can I Find Some Myself?
Don’t use your phone; optical methods are bad for aircraft. Use passive radar; it’s not hard, and I’ll help.
